Cy Pres Awards to Street Law, Inc.

In a class action settlement in which it is not possible to distribute all the money to the class, a cy pres award can be made to a charitable non-profit organization whose work benefits the members of the class or people in similar situations.

Street Law is readily equipped to advance its mission via cy pres funds.

Examples of Past Cy Pres Awards to Street Law

  • Through a cy pres award in California, Street Law worked with the American Antitrust Institute to develop and implement curricula that educate high school students on consumer and antitrust law.
  • A cy pres award in Illinois enabled Street Law to begin what is now one of its largest initiatives, via an initial partnership with the Chicago chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel. Through this award, Street Law developed a program that opens pathways to legal careers for youth facing adverse circumstances. • Street Law received a cy pres award to support survivors of intimate partner violence in Georgia. Via this funding, Street Law created and deployed programming to enable survivors to effectively navigate the legal system en route to rebuilding their lives.
  • A cy pres award from an ACLU lawsuit over unconstitutional arrests advanced Street Law’s education initiatives in Washington, DC. The funds helped provide professional development for local public school teachers to teach students about their rights and responsibilities.
