Seeking Teachers for LegalTimelines.org Pilot Project

In August 2022, Street Law launched its new Legal Timelines website, a site that seeks to provide students with a deeper understanding of legal issues and how legal history has led to where we are today.  

Currently, the site has multiple interactive timelines and inquiry-based resources related to the themes of federalism, the rights of the accused, and suffrage.  

In 2023, Street Law will add two new themes: students’ rights and presidential powers.

Inquiry packs for the students’ rights timeline will cover topics such as students’ free speech and religion rights, search and seizures in schools, and students’ access to an education. Inquiry packs for the presidential powers timeline will include executive privilege, executive orders, presidents’ emergency powers, and powers established by President George Washington.    

Apply to become one of 25 middle or high school teachers who will receive early access to pilot these new Legal Timelines materials.

Participating pilot teachers will commit to: 

• Attending two 2-hour professional development workshops: 
  • One introductory workshop at the end of February to introduce the materials and some strategies that may be used to integrate the resources into instruction (options are 2/23 from 5-7pm ET or 2/28 5:30-7:30 ET) 
  • One check-in workshop in April to reflect on materials integration and collaborate with other pilot cohort colleagues (options are 4/18 from 5-7pm ET or 4/19 from 5:30-7:30 ET) 
• Using two new inquiry sets and at least one new timeline in instruction by June 2^nd  
• Providing resource feedback to Street Law via an online form and responding to follow up questions if requested 
• Submitting 2-3 suggestions for activities or strategies teachers can use to integrate materials into instruction 

Participating pilot teachers will receive: 

• A $450 stipend
• Documentation of professional development hours provided by Street Law 
• Additional optional support for resource integration into course instruction, including individual meetings and check-ins and small group meeting
• Opportunity to extend project participation by becoming a local facilitator who can introduce these materials to teachers in your area

Applications are due by the end of the day on January 31, 2023. Participants will be notified by February 7, 2023.  

If you participated in the Legal Timelines pilot last year, please do not apply this year.
