The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) has named Street Law, Inc. as one of just four providers of high-quality supplementary social studies materials in its inaugural review of instructional resources.

Street Law was recognized alongside the Digital Inquiry Group, The DBQ Project, and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. The selected resources were reviewed using criteria adapted from Maryland’s Social Studies High-Quality Instructional Materials rubric. Maryland educators are encouraged to use these resources to strengthen core instructional programs and support full coverage of the state’s Social Studies Frameworks.

Street Law also earned recognition for its United States Government & Civics textbook. The textbook received an overall rating of “Meets Expectations” in Maryland’s review of comprehensive high school social studies materials, including a 100% rating for content alignment. No comprehensive social studies program reviewed in this cycle received the higher “Exceeds Expectations” rating.

Maryland defines materials that “Meet Expectations” as those that align with state standards, demonstrate strong evidence of high-quality instructional practice, and provide solid support for teaching and learning.

For Street Law, high-quality civic education means pairing that strong foundation of knowledge with opportunities for students to develop the skills they need to participate.

“Students need more than civic knowledge. They need the skills and confidence to use it,” said Ashok Regmi, CEO of Street Law, Inc.

That approach is at the heart of United States Government & Civics. Students not only learn how government works; they practice the skills needed to participate effectively in civic life. Throughout the text, students construct arguments, evaluate sources and claims, discuss public issues, consider different perspectives, seek compromise, and make informed decisions.

Maryland’s review process is part of a growing emphasis on helping schools and districts identify rigorous, standards-aligned instructional materials. As similar review systems become more common, independent evaluations like these can help educators make informed curriculum selection and purchasing decisions.
