Street Law, Inc. is proud to announce the recipient of its 2026 Community Champion Award: The Center for Youth & Family Advocacy (CYFA), a nonprofit organization based in Arlington, Virginia, whose core belief is in the inherent promise and potential of all children.
CYFA is dedicated to supporting youth and families across a continuum of opportunity, growth, and contribution, which includes early and consistent access to hands-on and project-based learning opportunities, resilience and accountability spaces when challenges arise, and real pathways for youth to give back and lead.
The annual Community Champion Award recognizes organizations that make a meaningful impact by integrating Street Law materials and methodologies into their programming. CYFA will accept this year’s award at Street Law’s 2026 Awards Gala in Washington, DC.
In 2024, Street Law and CYFA partnered to implement MY SKILLS, a reentry initiative supporting incarcerated youth as they transition back into their communities. Together, the organizations have created a model that integrates legal understanding, life-skills development, expungement opportunities, and individualized support to build confidence and remove barriers to successful reintegration.
Guided by this work, CYFA and Street Law developed the Reentry Ready curriculum, which expands MY SKILLS and integrates a reflection-based, experience-centered learning approach. CYFA CEO Devanshi Patel explains, “The power of our partnership is reflected in the development of programming that transforms lived experience into learning. When young people are given space to reflect, they begin to think differently, move differently, and show up differently. In doing so, they reclaim and redesign a sense of possibility for their lives and for those they love. That possibility is transformative.”
Reflecting on CYFA’s impact, Street Law CEO Ashok Regmi shared: “CYFA brings extraordinary care, expertise, and commitment to young people navigating some of the most challenging moments in their lives. Their work transforms legal education into something practical, human, and empowering. We are honored to recognize CYFA as our 2026 Community Champion and deeply value their partnership in advancing opportunity and second chances for youth.”
