An amicus curiae or “friend of the court” is an individual or group who is not a party to a case but submits a brief to the Supreme Court to express their opinions on the direction they think the Court should take on a case important to them.
In the spirit of inviting expert opinions to guide our work, Street Law is excited to assemble the 2025 Street Law Teacher Amicus Group.
We are seeking 20 middle and high school teachers to advise Street Law in ensuring our curricular materials and teacher professional development offerings are precisely what teachers and their students need.
We value teacher input and will weigh the expert opinions of our Teacher Amicus Group seriously when making decisions about the subject matter and approach of our materials.
This year, we are piloting new supporting materials to accompany the interactive timelines on our LegalTimelines.org website. We will focus our efforts on creating and adapting materials to make the timelines and resources more accessible to special education and middle school students and responsive to the needs of underserved communities.
Piloting these materials will be the first order of business for the 2025 Teacher Amicus Group.
Special education teachers; middle school teachers; and teachers from Texas, Oklahoma, Georgia, and rural communities across the United States are encouraged to apply.
The application deadline is December 15, 2024.
