Home Depot Teaches Legal Life Skills to Survivors of Sex Trafficking

Since 2018, Home Depot’s legal department has partnered with Street Law, Inc. to bring legal life skills to survivors of sex trafficking at Wellspring Living Women’s Academy.

Wellspring Living is a non-profit organization that provides survivors of domestic sex trafficking and those at risk for sex trafficking with life changing programming designed to aid them in gaining living wage employment.

These programs range from therapeutic services, to professional development, to life skills, and include three tracks—GED Completion, Career Readiness, and Apprenticeship.

Wellspring Living is located in Atlanta, Georgia, one of the largest hubs for sex trafficking nationwide. Over 100,000 children are trafficked in the United States each year and more than 250,000 are at risk of being trafficked, many of them through Atlanta.

For the past two years, Home Depot’s legal team has volunteered to provide informative and engaging weekly Street Law sessions for participants using our Legal Life Skills curriculum.

Sessions are discussion based and provide the women with practical tools and knowledge on topics such as rights and responsibilities at traffic stops and during an arrest, criminal law, juvenile justice, and managing triggers.

Thanks to the continued support and dedication of Home Depot, 64 Wellspring Living participants have benefited from Street Law lessons.
