The Street Law, Inc. Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Ashok Regmi has been appointed the organization’s next Executive Director. Ashok will replace Street Law’s outgoing Executive Director and long-time leader, Lee Arbetman, who is retiring at the end of 2020.

Ashok’s 20+ year career has been driven by a vision of an engaged, educated citizenry and democracy that is informed by youth voice and powered by young changemakers.

For the past 18 years, Ashok has worked to unlock the agency of young people and connect them with opportunities to transform their lives at the International Youth Foundation (IYF). As a senior executive, he led institutional strategic planning efforts; oversaw a multi-country, multi-year, and multi-million-dollar portfolio of youth development programs; and developed multi-sector partnerships across the globe.

As Executive Director, Ashok will work directly with the Board of Directors, staff, partners, and funders to build on the success of Street Law’s past five decades of work, during which the organization  established itself as a leading provider of empowering, interactive civic education programs and curricula.

Ashok will take the helm at a time when the need for Street Law’s programs—especially those serving young people vulnerable to injustice—is most urgent. Ashok’s skills, experience, and enthusiasm position him well to guide the organization as it embarks on racial justice and democratic renewal efforts that will help youth understand their rights and responsibilities, engage deeply in discussions about contested public issues, and advocate effectively for reform.

“I am thrilled to be joining Street Law, a civic education powerhouse whose work to bridge divides has never been more important,” said Ashok. “We need to double down on efforts to ensure that the next generation has the knowledge and opportunities to exercise their rights and be architects of a just and inclusive society. I look forward to working with the staff and Board to strengthen and scale up Street Law’s impressive work with school systems, government agencies, police departments, the legal community, and universities to meet the profound challenges of our time.”

Ashok brings to the Executive Director role demonstrated expertise in strategic planning; fundraising; budget management; program design, implementation, and evaluation; and building global partnerships with universities, governments, Fortune 500 companies, and grassroots organizations.

“Ashok is the ideal leader to build on Street Law’s incredible history and expand its impact in the future,” said Amy Dunathan Hammer, chair of Street Law’s Board of Directors. “His deep background in and passion for civic engagement and youth development, coupled with his proven strategic planning, management, and fundraising ability, will help successfully guide Street Law into its next stage of development. Together with our amazing staff, Ashok will advance our mission of empowering people to bring about positive change for themselves and others. We are absolutely delighted that he will be joining Street Law and look forward to his leadership.”
