On April 13, 2011, Wick Sollers—managing partner of the D.C. office of King & Spalding—accepted Street Law's first Law Firm Community Service Award on behalf of his firm.
In 2007 King & Spalding began its work with Street Law's Breakfast with a Legend program, which brings local leaders from law-related professions to fifth and sixth grade classrooms to teach students about rules and law and share their experiences over breakfast. King & Spalding began the program in one Washington, DC classroom with six volunteers. By 2009 the firm had tripled the number of volunteers and expanded to eight classrooms in two elementary schools. King & Spalding's Breakfast with a Legend program has met continued success and volunteers are currently planning the firm's 2011 program.
In addition to serving as resources to young students, King & Spalding attorneys have generously contributed their time to professional development opportunities for educators. Supreme Court experts are integral to Street Law's Supreme Court Summer Institutes and Seminars—they provide teachers with an in-depth understanding of how the Court chooses and decides cases and insight into what it is like to argue before the Court. King & Spalding attorneys have trained participants in Street Law's Supreme Court programs to be petitioners and respondents in moot court activities, and former Supreme Court clerks at the firm have shared a behind-the-scenes perspective on how the Court works. King & Spalding has generously hosted the Supreme Court Seminar for Atlanta Teachers for two consecutive years.
Beyond its participation in programs, King & Spalding continues to support Street Law's mission through sponsorship of the Annual Awards Dinner and participation on the event's host committee and Street Law's Board of Directors.
